Accessibility is being recognised as an increasingly important factor in a brand’s communication. Accessibility refers to the technical software changes applied to digital products to allow the maximum amount of content to be consumed by individuals with physical and mental impairments.

Naturally, as there are varying degrees of impairment, there are varying responses via technology. At POME we feel incredibly passionate about digital accessibility, as disability support is at our very core. To this end, we have invested in the production of an accessible website that meets the industry standard for accessibility – WCAG 2.0 Level AA.

This jargon simply means our website aims to hit and integrate certain levels of software development technique criteria that ensures people with impairments – especially visual impairments – can still interact with the website. For example, our site has careful attention on colour contrasts, font size, image labelling etc so the text-to-speech browsers used by impaired users can read content to the user – even descriptions of images.

We have also developed custom accessibility functions, such as dynamic text-resizing to make life easier. This dramatically improves the end-user experience for disabled individuals and provides a path for better inclusivity.
